The Easter weekend brings us a blissful 4-day weekend and in London, there is no shortage of ways to fill your time. Here at The Distillery, we’re lucky to call Notting Hill home so we’ve put together a list of things to do and see in our lovely neighbourhood over the long weekend.
Game of Thrones is back (finally!) and we’re ever so excited here at 186 Portobello Road. Us ‘Gin Maesters’ (sorry) have spent The Winter creating a range of Game of Thrones-inspired drinks that even Robert Baratheon would be proud of and will have you drinking like a Khaleesi at your home-viewing party.
Each cocktail is prepared with ingredients straight from a Tyrell’s potions cabinet and served in vessels fit for the true Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, whoever they might be.
This is a very simple drink to make, although one of the ingredients needs a little advance planning!
40mls Local Heroes No 3
10mls Oleo Sacharum
Orange Leaf Garnish
We named this one after the classic Dire Straits Romeo and Juliet because like the star-crossed lovers in Shakespeare’s tragedy the ingredients of both this drink and this gin don’t easily unite. Essentially a gin sour but with an extra layer of flavour and texture from the unusual addition of olive oil, which is also one of the ingredients used in the distillation of Local Heroes No.3 gin.
Romeo and Juliet is one of the most loved of Marks songs, it featured on the 1980 album Making Movies and reached number 8 in the UK chart when it was released as a single in 1981.
35mls Local Heroes 3
20mls egg white
5mls extra virgin olive oil
10mls Olorosso Sherry
Five drops of olive oil on to top of drink and mint sprig Garnish
Serve in a cocktail glass.
Zesty, fresh, lively, all the things you want in a gin and tonic. This one is named for the song Portobello Belle from the Dire Straits album Communiqué, which Mark wrote in 1979, shortly after having moved to the neighbourhood.
Proud purveyors of London’s spirit – Portobello Road Gin – have collaborated with legendary rock musician and Dire Straits frontman, Mark Knopfler OBE, to launch a distinctive, special edition ‘rock n roll’ gin this March.
Mark Knopfler – who is a passionate gin fan and former Notting Hill local – worked with Portobello Road Gin’s co-founder, Jake F. Burger to create Local Heroes No.3, which is a bold gin that combines Portobello Road Gin’s nine signature botanicals with lime zest, fresh cucumber peel and olive oil. The unique combination of botanicals results in a robustly ginny profile with strong spice flavour and heat which are quickly tempered by the coolness of cucumber.
Mum might be the gin to your tonic, but buying a gift for Mother’s Day can be tricky. We’ve all been guilty of falling into the generic flowers and chocolate trap so why not make this year extra special?
We have gift ideas for all discerning gin lovers that you’ll get to enjoy as much as Mum(if you’re lucky!)
